Jaelea Skehan is an internationally respected leader in the prevention of mental illness and the prevention of suicide. Born, raised and educated in Newcastle, Jaelea started working at Everymind in 2001, and has been leading the Institute as Director since 2012. She is a registered psychologist and holds a conjoint appointment with the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle.
Jaelea is passionate about translating evidence into practice and building the capacity of individuals, families, businesses and communities to be involved in mental health and suicide prevention. Jaelea has worked across a range of settings and sectors and has been instrumental in the development of flagship programs for Everymind, including national work with the media, suicide prevention policy and programs. Jaelea has also led key workplace mental health initiatives, including work with the mining industry, nsw police, health care settings and more recently a focus on the arts and entertainment industry and the mental health of small business.
